Anthony Quinn

Artist and Actor Anthony Quinn was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and his family moved to Los Angeles when he was four years old. Before becoming an Oscar winning actor, Anthony Quinn had been a prizefighter and a painter. Between takes on location and films he drew, painted and sculpted. Some of Quinn's best sculpture were created in Africa during the 1970s and 1980s while Quinn was working there on a film. Quinn was also a student and friend of Frank Lloyd Wright. Anthony Quinn's prints, paintings and sculpture have been featured world wide in galleries.

Spirit of Zorba

The Spirit of Zorba- Anthony Quinn

  • Description: Anthony Quinn hand sculpted an original clay maquette, on a wire armature of himself, in the costuming and dance pose best identified with his most famous role as Zorba.
  • This original work of art was then cast into solid bronze and patinated, by the authority of, and under the direct supervision of Anthony Quinn, who indicated his approval by inscribing his name onto the sculpture.
  • The highly respected Tallix Foundry in Peekskill, New York worked with the artist in creating the moulds from which the bronze casting was executed.
  • This sculpture is approximately 18” tall and is mounted on a marble base and is individually numbered 21/49.
  • Mr. Quinn personally presented this special work of art to his longtime friend, President Ronald Reagan, in an official ceremony in The Oval Office of the White House, in October of 1984.
  • “Spirit of Zorba” was one of two closely related sculptures by Anthony Quinn; the other similar work, in a different pose, was titled, “Song of Zorba.”  Collectively the two sculptures are known as“The Presidential Collection.”
